A very iconic picture of Essaouira, indeed. The blue windows and white wall colors painted also over the Moroccan zillij . It is the border between two houses and as nobody cares of this spot in the street where there also is the drain. Proudly shines Khatam – the eight point star on the ceramic wall. By the middle-ages, the eight-point star is widely used as a symbol in Islamic art. It is called khatim or khatim sulayman, seal of the prophets, as in signet ring. The phrase “seal of the prophets” is also used in the Koran and has particular ideological meaning for Muslims and it is certainly one of the most typic symbols of Morocco.
